Adderall XR Dosing
For people with ADHD, guidelines for dosing with Adderall XR will vary, depending on factors such as age and if any other medications are being taken. In general, the healthcare provider starts with a low amount and increases the dosage slowly, and only if necessary. Adderall XR is designed to be taken in the morning; if it is taken later in the day, it can cause problems sleeping.
The dose of Adderall XR® (amphetamine-dextroamphetamine extended release) your healthcare provider prescribes will vary, depending on a number of factors, including:
- Your age
- Other ADHD medications you may have tried
- Other medical conditions you may have
- Other medications you may be currently taking.
As is always the case, do not adjust this amount unless your healthcare provider specifically tells you to do so.
Refer to the following table for the recommended Adderall XR dose based on a person's age.
|
Age |
Dosage |
|
6 to 12 years |
10 to 30 mg once daily |
|
13 to 17 years |
10 to 20 mg once daily |
|
Adults |
20 mg once daily |
Generally, a lower amount of Adderall XR should be tried first. Also, the Adderall XR dosage should be increased slowly and only if necessary.
