Adderall XR Drug Information

Adderall XR® (amphetamine-dextroamphetamine extended release) is a prescription medication used for treating adults, teenagers, and children who are diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). This medication comes in the form of capsules and is designed to dissolve slowly. Because the medication is released slowly, it can be taken just once a day, eliminating the need to take medication at school or work.

Although most people tolerate this medication well, it is not suitable for everyone. Before starting treatment with Adderall XR, make sure to talk to your healthcare provider about any other medical conditions you may have or any other medications you are taking (including vitamins and herbal supplements). Some of the common side effects of this medication include headaches, insomnia, and weight loss.

The Adderall XR dosage your healthcare provider recommends will vary, based on factors such as your age and other medications you are currently taking. Adderall XR capsules are available in six strengths:

  • Adderall XR 5 mg
  • Adderall XR 10 mg
  • Adderall XR 15 mg
  • Adderall XR 20 mg
  • Adderall XR 25 mg
