Adderall is also licensed for narcolepsy treatment. Symptoms of narcolepsy include falling asleep uncontrollably and at unusual times. People with narcolepsy often appear paralyzed when they are sleeping and have hallucinations when falling asleep. People who have narcolepsy symtpoms often fall asleep several times during the day.
Adderall is a stimulant. For narcolepsy, Adderall is generally used at higher doses than when used as a treatment for ADHD. These higher doses have a stimulating effect, helping people with narcolepsy to stay awake.
Adderall is not recommended for use in children under the age of three. Talk to your healthcare provider about the benefits and the risks of using Adderall in young children.
On occasion, your healthcare provider may recommend Adderall for something other than the conditions discussed above. This is called an "off-label" use. At this time, there are a few off-label Adderall uses, such as:
- Treating depression (see Adderall for Depression)
- Helping with weight loss (see Adderall and Weight Loss).
