Adderall® (amphetamine and dextroamphetamine) may be prescribed to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and narcolepsy. Although Adderall is a stimulant, it can cause a calming effect in the proper doses for people with ADHD. However, Adderall can also cause a stimulating effect in high doses for people with narcolepsy. As with any medication, there are potential side effects of Adderall, including headaches, weight loss, and insomnia. Adderall comes in a tablet form that is taken orally.
