Snorting Adderall

Adderall and Adderall XR are prescription medications that are meant to be taken orally. There have not been any clinical studies done on the risks of snorting Adderall, but it is likely to be more dangerous than taking it by mouth. When snorting or injecting drugs, it allows for direct entry into the bloodstream, making them more potent and more dangerous. In addition, Adderall is not sterile, and injecting or snorting it may lead to infections or other problems.

 

Snorting Adderall: An Overview

Adderall® (amphetamine and dextroamphetamine) is a prescription medication used to treat ADHD and narcolepsy. Adderall XR® (amphetamine-dextroamphetamine extended release), a long-acting form of Adderall, is approved for use in ADHD treatment. Adderall and Adderall XR are also medications that are commonly abused. Adderall and Adderall XR are meant to be taken by mouth, and the safety of snorting Adderall has never been studied. Snorting Adderall is likely to be more dangerous than taking it by mouth.
 

Reasons for Snorting Adderall

There are many reasons why Adderall is snorted. It is a stimulant, or an "upper," that people can easily abuse. Another reason Adderall is snorted is for weight loss. Weight loss is a common side effect of Adderall. Because it is a commonly prescribed medication, it is often easy to find.
 

Is Snorting Adderall Safe?

Many people mistakenly think that snorting (or otherwise abusing) Adderall is safe because Adderall is a prescription medication, not a "street drug." Many people who abuse Adderall take it in very high doses, much higher than normally prescribed. People who snort or inject normal doses of Adderall are also putting themselves at higher risk because snorting or injecting drugs allows for direct entry into the bloodstream, making them more potent (and more dangerous). Also, Adderall is not sterile, and injecting or snorting Adderall may lead to infections or other problems.
