The drug is a slow-releasing stimulant that comes in four different strengths, including:
- Concerta 18 mg tablets
- Concerta 27 mg tablets
- Concerta 36 mg tablets
- Concerta 54 mg tablets.
If you have never taken
methylphenidate (the active ingredient in Concerta), you will likely start with 18 mg once daily. For people who have taken other forms of methylphenidate, dosing will vary, depending on your previous dosage of these products (ranging from 18 mg to 72 mg daily).
Generally, the lower Concerta dosages should be tried first. If necessary, your healthcare provider may increase your dosage slowly.
