The drug is available by prescription only and comes in numerous strengths, including:

  • Concerta 18 mg tablets
  • Concerta 27 mg tablets
  • Concerta 36 mg tablets
  • Concerta 54 mg tablets.

Dosing for this medication varies from person to person, depending on whether you have previously taken methylphenidate (the active ingredient in Concerta). The recommended starting dose for people new to methylphenidate is either 18 mg or 36 mg once daily.

For those who have taken other methylphenidate products, dosing is based on your previous dosage of these products. For example, if your previous methylphenidate dose was 15 mg two or three times a day, you would start with Concerta 54 mg tablets (one tablet daily).
