Concerta Drug Interactions
Pressor medications, seizure medications, and other drugs can cause problems when taken with Concerta. Some of these interactions can increase the amount of the medications in your blood, potentially increasing your risk of side effects. Some of these interactions can also lead to life-threatening side effects. Therefore, be sure to talk to your healthcare provider about any interactions with Concerta that may apply to you.
Concerta® (methylphenidate extended release) can potentially interact with several drugs. Some of the drugs that may lead to interactions with Concerta include:
- Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), including:
- Isocarboxazid (Marplan®)
- Phenelzine (Nardil®)
- Rasagiline (Azilect®)
- Selegiline (Eldepryl®, Emsam®, Zelapar®)
- Tranylcypromine (Parnate®)
- Pressors (medications to increase blood pressure), including:
- Dopamine (Intropin®)
- Dobutamine (Dobutrex®)
- Epinephrine (Adrenaline®, EpiPen®)
- Norepinephrine (Levophed®)
- Seizure medications, such as phenobarbital (Luminal®), phenytoin (Dilantin®), or primidone (Mysoline®)
- SSRI antidepressants, including:
- Citalopram (Celexa®)
- Escitalopram (Lexapro®)
- Fluoxetine (Prozac®)
- Fluvoxamine (Luvox®)
- Paroxetine (Paxil®)
- Sertraline (Zoloft®)
- Tricyclic antidepressants, including:
- Amitriptyline (Elavil®)
- Amoxapine (Asendin®)
- Clomipramine (Anafranil®)
- Doxepin (Sinequan®, Silenor®)
- Imipramine (Tofranil®)
- Desipramine (Norpramin®)
- Nortriptyline (Pamelor®)
- Protriptyline (Vivactil®)
- Trimipramine (Surmontil®)
