Daytrana Patch Problems

Q: What if the Daytrana patch is coming off around the edges?
A: This is usually not a problem, although it may make the patch more likely to fall off while swimming, bathing, or showering. Try to get the edges to stick again by firmly pressing the patch with your hand for 30 seconds. Do not worry if you cannot get the edges to stick again.

Q: What if the Daytrana patch is causing redness of the skin?
A: Redness of the skin in the area under the patch is very common with the Daytrana patch. This is not usually a sign of an allergic reaction and is usually not a problem. However, if the rash spreads, or if there are blisters, itching, or swelling, tell your healthcare provider right away.

Q: If the Daytrana dose is too much, can I cut the patch?
A: Never cut the Daytrana patch. This could actually increase the dose significantly. If you think the dose is too high, talk to your healthcare provider about getting a lower strength Daytrana patch.

Q: What if my child cannot sleep after using the Daytrana patch?
A: The medication in Daytrana often causes insomnia. Because Daytrana works for about three hours after the patch is removed, the patch needs to be removed well before bedtime. Talk to your healthcare provider about finding the best time to remove the patch in order to help your child sleep at night.

Q: What if I accidentally touch the patch while putting it on my child?
A: Just make sure to wash your hands thoroughly. This should not cause any problems.

Q: What if I forgot to remove the patch from my child?
A: If you forgot to remove the patch at the proper time, you will probably notice that your child will have trouble sleeping at bedtime. Remove the patch as soon as you remember. It is not entirely clear what you should do if you do not remember until the next morning. It may be a good idea to skip the dose for that day, although it is best to call your healthcare provider in this situation.
