Dexedrine Warnings and Precautions
For people taking Dexedrine, warnings and precautions to be aware of with the medication involve such things as the risk of becoming addicted to the drug. Other precautions and warnings for Dexedrine users concern the drug's potential effect on one's ability to drive a car. If you have taken a MAO inhibitor in the past two weeks, you should not take Dexedrine. Also, you should not take Dexedrine if you have heart problems, an overactive thyroid, or severe anxiety.
Before taking Dexedrine® (dextroamphetamine sulfate), let your healthcare provider know if you have:
- Heart problems of any kind, including heart disease or atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries)
- High blood pressure (hypertension)
- Mental illness, including bipolar disorder and psychotic disorders (such as schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder)
- Seizures or epilepsy
- Tourette syndrome
- Glaucoma (a condition of the eye)
- A history of drug or alcohol abuse
- Hyperthyroidism
- Any allergies, including allergies to foods, dyes, or preservatives.
Also, let your healthcare provider know if you are:
- Pregnant or thinking of becoming pregnant
- Breastfeeding.
It's important to also tell your healthcare provider about all of the medicines you take, including prescription and non-prescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements.
