Focalin® (
dexmethylphenidate hydrochloride) is a prescription medication commonly used for the treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (
ADHD).
It comes in tablet form and is available in three different strengths, including:
- 2.5 mg Focalin tablets
- 5 mg Focalin tablets
- 10 mg Focalin tablets.
People who have previously taken
methylphenidate (a medication similar to dexmethylphenidate, the active ingredient of Focalin) should start with Focalin at half the total daily dose of methylphenidate taken before, as Focalin is more potent than methylphenidate.
People who are new to methylphenidate products should start with Focalin 2.5 mg twice daily.
If necessary, your healthcare provider may increase your dosage at weekly intervals. The maximum recommended dose is 20 mg total per day (10 mg twice daily).
