Focalin Interactions Explained

 
Clonidine (Catapres)
Taking Focalin with clonidine can increase your risk of serious side effects. Your healthcare provider may need to adjust your doses of these medications.
 
MAO Inhibitors
Taking Focalin and MAO inhibitors together can cause life-threatening side effects, such as very high blood pressure. Do not take Focalin and MAO inhibitors together unless your healthcare provider specifically tells you to do so. Do not take Focalin if you have taken an MAO inhibitor within the past two weeks.
 
Pressors
Taking Focalin and pressors together can cause an increase in side effects, particularly increased blood pressure and increased heart rate. Your healthcare provider may need to monitor your heart rate and blood pressure closely and adjust your doses of these drugs if necessary.
 
Seizure Medications
Taking Focalin with seizure medications can increase the amount of the seizure medication in the blood, perhaps increasing your risk of side effects. Your healthcare provider may need to decrease your dose of the seizure medication.
 
SSRI Antidepressants
Taking Focalin with SSRI antidepressants can increase the amount of the antidepressant in your blood, perhaps increasing your risk of side effects. Your healthcare provider may need to decrease your dose of the antidepressant.
 
Tricyclic Antidepressants
Taking Focalin with tricyclic antidepressants can increase the amount of the antidepressant in your blood, perhaps increasing your risk of side effects. Your healthcare provider may need to decrease your dose of the antidepressant.
 
Warfarin (Coumadin, Jantoven)
Taking Focalin with warfarin can increase the amount of warfarin in the blood, perhaps increasing your risk of bleeding. Your healthcare provider may need to adjust your doses of these medications.
