The prescription drug Focalin® is often is used in the treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The drug is a stimulant; however, it has a calming effect, which is opposite of what might be expected. In clinical studies, children and teenagers with ADHD who took Focalin had significant improvement in their symptoms, compared to children and teenagers with ADHD who did not take it. Possible side effects of Focalin include stomach pain, fever, and nausea.
