ADHD Home > Focalin XR Medication Info

If you have been diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), your healthcare provider may recommend Focalin XR® (dexmethylphenidate extended-release). This long-acting product comes in the form of capsules that are specially designed to release half of the medication immediately and to release the second half of the medication after approximately four hours. As a result, the medication can be taken just once a day.

Focalin XR is a stimulant and is commonly abused, so there are special rules for prescribing it. Because of the many risks associated with the use of this drug, it is important to review safety information for Focalin XR with your healthcare provider before beginning treatment. For example, tell your healthcare provider if you have any allergies or have ever had any heart problems.
