Throat pain, anxiety, and loss of appetite are a few common side effects of Focalin XR. Some uncommon reactions include dizziness, drowsiness, and hair loss. Some side effects that you should report to your healthcare provider include chest tightness, suicidal thoughts, and fainting or seizures. These reactions are potentially serious and require prompt medical attention.

Focalin XR Side Effects: An Introduction

As with any medicine, side effects can occur with Focalin XR® (dexmethylphenidate extended-release). However, not everyone who takes drug will experience problems. In fact, most people tolerate it well. If people do develop side effects, in most cases, they are minor, meaning they require no treatment or are treated easily by you or your healthcare provider.

Common Side Effects of Focalin XR

Focalin XR has been studied thoroughly in clinical trials, with many people having been evaluated. In these studies, the side effects occurring in a group of people taking the drug are always documented and compared to those that occur in a similar group of people not taking the medicine. This way, it is possible to see what side effects occur, how often they appear, and how they compare to the group not taking the medicine.

Focalin XR can also cause a temporary slowing of growth in children. This is usually small (less than an inch and less than two pounds), and children usually catch up to within normal limits in time.
