When certain medications are taken with Ritalin LA, drug interactions may occur and lead to serious side effects. Not only can these interactions cause life-threatening side effects, such as high blood pressure or increased heart rate, they can also significantly increase the level of medicine in your blood. Medications that may cause Ritalin LA drug interactions include monoamine oxidase inhibitors, tricyclic antidepressants, warfarin, and seizure medications.

Ritalin LA Drug Interactions: An Overview

Ritalin LA® (methylphenidate extended-release) can potentially interact with several medicines. Some of the medicines that may lead to Ritalin LA drug interactions include:

  • Antacids or acid suppressants, such as:


  • Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), including:




    • Dopamine (Intropin®)
    • Dobutamine (Dobutrex®)
    • Epinephrine (Adrenalin®, EpiPen®)
    • Norepinephrine (Levophed®)
