Prior to starting treatment with Vyvanse, you should understand the risks of the medication. Some of the Vyvanse warnings and precautions include the potential risk of sudden death in people who already have heart problems, the possibility of the drug causing vision problems, and the safety of taking the drug when pregnant or breastfeeding. There are several cases where you should not take Vyvanse, such as if you have used an MAOI within the past two weeks or have a history of drug abuse.
Vyvanse: What Should I Tell My Healthcare Provider?
You should talk with your healthcare provider prior to taking Vyvanse™ (lisdexamfetamine dimesylate) if you have:- Heart problems of any kind, including heart disease, congestive heart failure, an irregular heart rhythm (arrhythmia), or had a recent heart attack
- High blood pressure (hypertension)
- Mental illness, including depression, bipolar disorder, or psychotic disorders (such as schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder)
- Seizures or epilepsy
- Tourette syndrome
- Glaucoma (a condition of the eye)
- Liver or kidney problems
- Thyroid problems
- A history of drug or alcohol abuse
- Any allergies, including allergies to foods, dyes, or preservatives.
Also, let your healthcare provider know if you are:
- Pregnant or thinking of becoming pregnant
- Breastfeeding.
Make sure to also tell your healthcare provider about all of the medicines you take, including prescription and non-prescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements.
