Metadate ER Interactions

Metadate ER Interactions Explained

The following sections explain in detail the potentially negative interactions that can occur when Metadate ER is combined with any of the drugs listed above.

Clonidine
Taking Metadate ER with clonidine can increase your risk of serious side effects. To prevent this, your healthcare provider may need to adjust your dose of these medications.

Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors
If Metadate ER and MAOIs are taken together, this can cause life-threatening side effects, such as very high blood pressure. Do not combine these drugs unless your healthcare provider specifically tells you to do so. Do not take Metadate ER if you have taken an MAOI within the past two weeks.

Pressors
Combining Metadate ER and pressors can cause an increase in side effects, particularly, increased blood pressure and heart rate. Depending on your particular situation, your healthcare provider may need to monitor your heart rate and blood pressure closely and adjust your dose of these drugs, if necessary.

Seizure Medications
If Metadate ER is combined with seizure medications, this can increase the amount of the seizure medication in the blood, which may increase your risk of side effects. Your healthcare provider may need to decrease your dose of the seizure medication to prevent this interaction from occurring.

Tricyclic Antidepressants
Taking Metadate ER with tricyclic antidepressants can increase the amount of the antidepressant in your blood, potentially increasing your risk of side effects. To prevent this, your healthcare provider may need to decrease your dose of the antidepressant.

Warfarin
If Metadate ER is combined with warfarin, this can increase the amount of warfarin in the blood, which may increase your risk of bleeding. Depending on your situation, your healthcare provider may need to monitor you more closely when starting or stopping Metadate ER.
