Methylin for Depression Treatment

Stimulants like Methylin are also sometimes used to treat depression. Although not approved for this use, stimulants can help to rapidly improve associated symptoms. However, the manufacturer of Methylin specifically warns that the medication should not be used to treat severe depression. It has not been studied for this use, and there is the possibility that Methylin may make depression worse.
 

Methylin and Depression: A Summary

Even though stimulants like Methylin are sometimes used to treat depression, this has also been reported as a possible side effect of the drug. Therefore, it's important for people taking Methylin (or their family members) to know the signs and symptoms of depression. If you notice any of these symptoms in either you or your child, or if something "just does not seem right," you should talk to your healthcare provider right away. He or she will be able to diagnose the problem and recommend treatment options.
