Quillivant XR Drug Interactions
The following sections explain in detail the potentially negative reactions that can occur when any of the drugs mentioned above are combined with Quillivant XR.
Taking Quillivant XR with an antipsychotic could increase the risk for side effects, such as irritability and agitation. Talk to your healthcare provider about this possible interaction before taking these medicines together.
Blood Pressure Medications
Quillivant XR could make blood pressure medicines less effective. If you take a blood pressure medication, your healthcare provider may want to closely monitor your blood pressure when you first start or stop taking Quillivant XR.
Certain Cough and Cold Products
Combining Quillivant XR with certain cough and cold products could increase your risk for heart-related side effects, such as high blood pressure (hypertension) and a fast heart rate (tachycardia). Talk to your healthcare provider or pharmacist before taking a cough and cold product during Quillivant XR treatment, including products that are available without a prescription.
Certain Seizure Medicines
Taking Quillivant XR with certain seizure medications could increase the amount of the seizure medication in your blood, perhaps increasing your risk of side effects. Also, carbamazepine may decrease the amount of Quillivant XR in your blood, potentially making it less effective. Your healthcare provider may need to adjust your medication doses if you take these medicines together.
Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOIs)
Taking Quillivant XR and an MAOI together can cause life-threatening side effects, such as very high blood pressure. Do not take Quillivant XR if you are taking an MAOI, or if you have taken an MAOI within the past two weeks, unless your healthcare provider specifically tells you to do so.
Parkinson's Disease Medications
Taking Quillivant XR with medications used to treat Parkinson's disease could increase the risk for side effects, such as involuntary, repetitive movements. Talk to your healthcare provider about this possible interaction before taking these medicines together.
Quillivant XR may increase blood levels of tricyclic antidepressants, possibly increasing the risk of side effects. Your healthcare provider may need to decrease your antidepressant dose if you take these medicines together.
Taking Quillivant XR and warfarin together can increase the amount of warfarin in your blood, possibly increasing your risk of bleeding. If you take warfarin, your healthcare provider may need to monitor you more closely when starting or stopping Quillivant XR.
