Ritalin LA for Depression Treatment

Stimulants like Ritalin LA are also sometimes used to treat depression. Although not approved for this use, these drugs can help to rapidly improve symptoms of depression. However, the manufacturer of Ritalin LA specifically warns that the medication should not be used to treat severe depression because it has not been studied for this use.
 

Ritalin LA and Depression: A Summary

Even though stimulants like Ritalin LA are sometimes used to treat depression, this has also been reported as a possible side effect of the drug. Therefore, if you or a family member is taking Ritalin LA, it is important to know the signs and symptoms of depression. If you notice any of these symptoms in either you or your child, or if something "just does not seem right," you should talk to your healthcare provider right away. He or she will be able to diagnose the problem and recommend treatment options.
