Ritalin SR Dosage: An Overview
- Your age
- Other narcolepsy or ADHD medications you may have tried
- Other medical conditions you may have
- Other medications you are currently taking.
As is always the case, do not adjust your dose unless your healthcare provider specifically instructs you to do so.
Ritalin SR Dosage for ADHD and Narcolepsy
Ritalin SR is intended to be used to replace regular Ritalin once you have found the dose that works best for you. Once you are stable on a specific dose of Ritalin, your healthcare provider may switch you to Ritalin SR (which is taken just once a day). For example, if you were taking Ritalin 10 mg twice a day, your new Ritalin SR dose would be 20 mg, taken once daily in the morning. If you were taking Ritalin 20 mg twice a day, your new Ritalin SR dose would be 40 mg, taken once daily in the morning.
General Ritalin SR Dosage Information
Considerations for people taking Ritalin SR include the following:
- If you do not take your Ritalin SR as scheduled, take your missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and return to your regular schedule. Taking a dose after morning may cause trouble sleeping. Never take a double dose of the medicine.
- You can take Ritalin SR with or without food. If it upsets your stomach, try taking it with food.
- For the medication to work properly, you have to take it as prescribed. Ritalin SR will not work if you take it differently from how your healthcare provider recommends.
- If you are unsure about anything related to Ritalin SR or your Ritalin SR dosage, talk to your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist. Do not stop taking the medication without first discussing it with your healthcare provider.
