Strattera Dosage

For most adults -- and children or teens weighing more than 154 pounds -- Strattera dosing starts at 40 mg once daily or 20 mg twice daily. Children and teenagers weighing less than 154 pounds typically start with 0.25 mg of Strattera per pound of weight, rounded to the nearest available strength. After at least three days, your healthcare provider may increase your Strattera dose if needed. In order for the medication to work properly, it must be taken as prescribed.

Strattera Dosage: An Overview

The dosage of Strattera® (atomoxetine hydrochloride) that your healthcare provider prescribes will vary depending on a number of factors, including:

  • Your age
  • Your weight
  • Other medical conditions you may have
  • Other medications you may be currently taking.

As always, do not adjust your Strattera dosage unless your healthcare provider specifically instructs you to do so.

Strattera Dosing for ADHD in Children and Teens

For children and teenagers (weighing 154 pounds or less), Strattera should be started at 0.25 mg per pound of weight, rounded to the nearest available strength. After at least three days, your healthcare provider can increase your Strattera dose to 0.6 mg per pound of body weight (rounded to the nearest strength available). The dose can be taken once daily in the morning or divided into two doses (one in the morning and one in the late afternoon or early evening).

Children and teens weighing more than 154 pounds should receive the adult Strattera dose.
