Strattera Sexual Side Effects

As with all medications, it is possible to develop certain side effects while taking Strattera. Sexual side effects that have been reported with the medicine include priapism, impotence, a decreased libido, and ejaculation problems. If you experience any sexual side effects during treatment with this drug, talk to your healthcare provider.

Does Strattera Cause Sexual Side Effects?

 Strattera® (atomoxetine hydrochloride) is a prescription medication that is used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in children, teenagers, and adults. As with all medicines, there are possible side effects with Strattera. Some of these side effects can affect a person's sexual well-being. In the case of Strattera, sexual side effects that have been reported include:
 
  • A decreased sex drive (libido).
     
  • Impotence -- Impotence is usually defined as a total inability to achieve erection, an inconsistent ability to do so, or a tendency to sustain only brief erections. Ultimately, impotence is the repeated inability to get or keep an erection firm enough for sexual intercourse. Impotence is also known as erectile dysfunction (or ED for short).
     
  • Orgasm changes.
     
  • Ejaculation problems -- These problems can include a decreased ejaculation amount or an inability to ejaculate.
     
  • Priapism -- A painful erection that lasts more than four hours.
