Vyvanse Drug Interactions
When certain medications are taken with Vyvanse, drug interactions may occur. Some of the drugs that can lead to these Vyvanse interactions include certain antacids, some sleep medications, and high blood pressure medications. Some of these interactions can alter the drug levels in your blood, leading to serious side effects or decreasing the effectiveness of the drugs. Your healthcare provider may need to adjust your dosages of the medications.
Vyvanse™ (lisdexamfetamine dimesylate) can potentially interact with several drugs. Some of the drugs that may lead to Vyvanse interactions include:
- Acetazolamide (Diamox®)
- Ammonium chloride
- Certain antacids, such as sodium bicarbonate or calcium carbonate (Tums®)
- Certain sleep medications, such as diphenhydramine (Benadryl®, Tylenol PM®)
- Chlorpromazine (Thorazine®)
- Ethosuximide (Zarontin®)
- Haloperidol (Haldol®)
- Lithium (Eskalith®, Lithobid®)
- Medications for high blood pressure (see Blood Pressure Medication)
- Meperidine (Demerol®)
- Methenamine (Hiprex®, Urex®)
- Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), such as:
- Isocarboxazid (Marplan®)
- Phenelzine (Nardil®)
- Rasagiline (Azilect®)
- Selegiline (Eldepryl®, Emsam®, Zelapar®)
- Tranylcypromine (Parnate®)
- Phenobarbital (Luminal®)
- Phenytoin (Dilantin®, Phenytek®)
- Propoxyphene (Darvocet®, Darvon®)
- Reserpine
- Tricyclic antidepressants, including:
- Amitriptyline (Elavil®)
- Amoxapine (Asendin®)
- Clomipramine (Anafranil®)
- Desipramine (Norpramin®)
- Doxepin (Sinequan®, Silenor®)
- Imipramine (Tofranil®, Tofranil PM®)
- Maprotiline (Ludiomil®)
- Nortriptyline (Pamelor®)
- Protriptyline (Vivactil®)
- Trimipramine (Surmontil®).
